Physicals
When you visit Brashear Family Medicine, we will undertake a physical examination as part of our standard protocol for gauging your health. Checkups of this nature are also referred to as wellness exams.
DOT Physicals
If you plan on working for the Department of Transportation, they will require you to have a physical exam before you can begin work. The exam will check vision, hearing, blood pressure etc. Mr. Warren Cave, an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner at Brashear Family Medical, is a registered medical examiner on the federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners and qualified to perform DOT physical exams.
Pre-Employment Physicals
Many employers will require that new-hires undergo a physical exam before they can start work. These exams are non-invasive and may include vision and hearing tests as well as strength and stamina if the job requires any physical exertion.
Cancer Screenings
Screening tests can help find cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat or cure. By the time symptoms appear, the cancer may have grown and spread. This can make the cancer harder to treat or cure.
Cardiovascular Health Screening
The key to preventing cardiovascular disease, also called coronary artery disease (CAD), is managing your risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high total cholesterol or high blood glucose. But how do you know which risk factors you have? The best way to find out is through screening tests that can be done at your doctor’s office.
Adult Wellness Exams
Adult wellness exams are a comprehensive exam done for preventative measures and are also referred to as “annual checkups.” During this exam, your doctor may check your height, weight, blood pressure and temperature as well as perform pap smears and breast exams for women.
School/Sports/Camp Required Physicals
These are the standard screening physicals required to play sports, participate in organizational camp activities, or simply to attend school. It is important to understand that these physicals are not the comprehensive annual or periodic physicals (typically conducted by your primary care doctor and often billable to insurance), which require more extensive history, physical examination, counseling and often other services such as lab work.
Women’s Health Exams
Health exams for women are comprehensive exams done for preventative measures and to check your overall health. In addition to checking your height, weight, blood pressure and temperature, your doctor may perform a pap smear and breast exam, and order any necessary screening tests.
