Seasonal Allergies

It’s definitely a bad time of year for allergies in Kaufman County!  Whether it’s because of  the continued dry weather, or the mild winter from last year, or any of a host of other reasons, many patients are reporting a “worse than usual” allergy response this Fall.   If you find yourself with sinus pressure, congestion, post-nasal drip and sore throat, or maybe just the usual sneezing and watery eyes, you are not alone.

We’ve had several visits for allergy-related symptoms daily for the last few weeks, and I don’t think it will slow down any time soon.  It seems like every week we see several patients who specifically request “their usual:” which is often a steroid shot.   For a lucky minority, that’s all it takes for relief, and I may not see them back in the office until next Fall.  Many more of my patients, unfortunately, have a more chronic problem, and I know I will likely see them for the same symptoms in a few months or less.

If your allergy issues are chronic, or you seem to get flareups several times per year, make sure to let us know.  There are several options available to help — I’ll discuss a few of them in my next post.
